Why Get a Massage?

Many people think that massage is something wealthy people get to spoil themselves or because it feels good. Well, it does feel good, that's just an added benefit. It's a great way to get healthy that happens to also feel great. Ask a doctor and they will tell you that most illnesses are born out of stress. High levels of stress weaken your body's immune system. When your immune system is weak you can't fight off the common cold, let alone cancer cells or any other more serious health condition.

The truth is, our bodies are amazing things with great abilities to heal when given the opportunity. When we turn to medications for every ache and pain we just mask or "band-aid" the very signals our body has given us for a reason. Our body is telling us something is wrong or out of balance within us. Why not try getting to the root source of the problem? Why not let go some of the stress that got you to this place of discomfort or disease.

Massage and energy based healing modalities all help get to the root of the problem. Both help activate the relaxation response in the nervous system. Once that happens there is an enormous list of things that happen within the body to initiate self healing.

  • The relaxation response releases endorphins in the brain
  • The endorphins relax the muscles
  • Relaxed muscles create more space between cells providing increased circulation
  • The increased blood flow elevates oxygen levels throughout the body
  • Accelerated blood flow allows nutrients to be absorbed more efficiently
  • Enzymes build for proper digestion
  • Hormones regulate to strengthen the body's constitution
  • Toxins release from the body
  • Healthy cells begin to regenerate
  • A sense of well-being is established which promotes healing

So next time you wonder if you can afford a massage, think what you'll save in over the counter pain medications, time missed from work and the value of your overall well being! Can you afford not to do it?
